DescriptionBlack and gold homemade quilt. Twenty-five (25) separate quilted squares--some accented with pearls, gems, metal, and fur--each featuring important Pittsburgh landmarks and icons, including (but not limited to): the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Pittsburgh Steelers; KDKA; steel industry; Heinz; Warhol and Carnegie Museums; Phipps Conservatory; the Incline; Mister Rogers Neighborhood; the Block House; University of Pittsburgh; the McDonalds Big Mac; Nickelodeon; and Kennywood. Some squares have handwritten captions in ink. Two rectangular patches at top and bottom, embroidered in gold have commemorative text. Historical NotesA commemorative quilt created by 23 woman quilters in the Southwestern Pennsylvania region for the 250th anniversary of Pittsburgh. The quilt was created as part of the Quilter’s Weekend held at the Senator John Heinz History Center on January 26 and 27, 2008. The 25 squares on the quilt represent significant moments, products, icons, and firsts in the history of Pittsburgh and the region.
