Historical NotesBiscuit crate from the Thomas R. Mackey Baking Company. The Thomas R. Mackey Baking Company was granted a charter on January 10, 1905, and organized on February 1, 1906. It was started by Thomas Mackey and several other Pittsburghers in the grocery and baking businesses with the purpose of "manufacturing by machinery and skilled manual labor, crackers, cakes and biscuits, and prepared flour and other products from flour and of the bakery." In 1911, it was transferred to the Famous Biscuit Company which was ran by Mackey Company secretary John Archibald Simeral. (Source: "History of Pittsburgh and its Environs").
