Historical NotesPiece of cullet from the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company plant in Meadville, Pa. This glass sample was gathered during the rebuilding process of Line 1 at the Works 8 PPG plant. The tanks were being replaced after producing a run of glass for windows in S-947 airplanes. The chemistry of that glass made it impossible to remove all the residue from the tanks. After the furnace cooled an eight inch sheet of the glass remained at the bottom of the tank. Jerry Green and a friend chipped out pieces of that glass and took them home – the rest ended in the landfill. This piece came from that final run of S-947 glass. Green also donated other pieces that document the flat glass produced in Meadville.
