Historical NotesThis Curtis Cup blazer was worn by the donor, Carol Semple Thompson, who has won seven United States Golf Association championships and is one of the most successful amateur women's golfers in the last half century.Label TextSince 1974, Carol Semple Thompson has played on 12 Curtis Cup teams, most recently in 2002. She holds the record for playing more Curtis Cup championships than any other competitor — American, British, or Irish. Officially known as the Women’s International Cup, the Curtis Cup Championship is an amateur women’s team event, which sets an American team against one from Great Britain and Ireland. The first Curtis Cup match was played in 1932 at Wentworth Golf Club in England, and is named for Harriot and Margaret Curtis, two sisters who won the U. S. Women’s Amateur four times between them. The championship alternates between American and British or Irish locations and occurs in even-numbered years.
