Historical NotesThis pitcher was made in Slovenia and used by the Slovenian Heritage Association in their displays at the Pittsburgh Folk Festival and other events. The pitcher was specially made by the Kamnik Pottery for the 1987 Folk Festival's "Year of the Slovene" celebration. Majolka pitchers are both functional and decorative in Slovenian culture; the pieces often feature a crest of the city or region they were made in and are popular tourist souvenirs.Label TextDecorative and functional, Slovenian Majolka pitchers are used for wine and other beverages. This hand-painted pitcher was specially made and sent to Pittsburgh for the 1987 Folk Festival's "Year of the Slovene" celebration. It was produced in the north-central Slovenian town of Kamnik, a region with a rich tradition of pottery production.
