Historical NotesA dish from the Union Club of Pittsburgh, collected to document this early twentieth century organization. The dish was made using the electroplating process by the Gorham Manufacturing Company of Providence, Rhode Island. The Union Club was originally located in the 21st story of the Frick Building (built 1901-1902), and was elaborately decorated in the "French style." Around 1913, the Club sold some of its furnishings and relocated to the First National Bank Building (Fifth Avenue and Wood Street). It eventually occupied two of the building's upper floors, but apparently went out of business in 1930. The cartouche in the maker's mark stamp indicates that the object was created sometime during the twentieth century.
