DescriptionSmall heavy piece of cardboard with a landscape painting of a farm during the fall. On the left of the painting, there is a forest of trees without leaves. Constructed in front of the forest are a series of red houses with black roofs, which lead off into the distance towards a mountain. In the foreground of the painting, there is a brown field with grey roads painted into it, and what could be a little black dog running across the area. Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
