Historical NotesSaxophone belonged to Stanley Turrentine.Label TextThis tenor saxophone owned by jazz legend Stanley Turrentine is brass, with black paint and mother of pearl valve buttons, cork valve pads, black neck and mouthpiece with a bamboo reed. Engraved into the horn is a large scroll/leaf design that highlights the brass underneath. Turrentine, a Pittsburgh native, performed professionally as a teenager. He played the blues, bop, fusion, jazz, soul, and R&B and recorded with several labels including Blue Note, CTI, Elektra, and Tamla. Some of Turrentine’s noted albums are Z. T.’s Blues (1961), Sugar (1970), Pieces of Dreams (1974), Wonderland (1987), and T-Time (1995).
