Historical NotesThis accordion belonged to Joe Lamping, who was one of the original members of the Slovenian Heritage Association. He took lessons from a Slovenian fellow in Meadowlands, Washington County, who also taught a lot of Pittsburghers. Label TextJoe Lamping received this accordion as a Christmas gift from his wife, Edna, when he retired. He began taking lessons and learned to play songs from memory. Original members of the Slovenian Heritage Association, the Lampings were actively involved with the organization and Joe played accordion at many of their gatherings. Also a member of a local accordion group, Joe traveled across the United States and Canada with his accordion. He once played at five clubs in one day! The hand-made accordion features beautiful inlaid marquetry and mother-of-pearl buttons. It was crafted by the Melodija Menges company in Slovenia, which has produced accordions and other musical instruments since 1946.
