Historical NotesMine Safety Appliance hand operated carbon monoxide indicator/tester and case. This tester was developed circa 1947 by Mine Safety to detect varying concentrations of the deadly gas in and around mines. Parts for the detector were made in the Evans City plant and in the Braddock Avenue facility. It was no longer produced after 1974. It does not require a power source, is portable, and is simple to operate. It can detect varying concentrations of the gas from 0.1% to 1.0% and can function while other gasses are present.
