Label TextCharles “Teenie” Harris began his career in 1930 primarily as a staff photographer for the Pittsburgh Courier in the 1930s. His career lasted well over sixty-years, during which he took some of the most poignant images depicting African American life in Pittsburgh during the mid-twentieth century. His images often accompanied articles written by Frank Bolden, John Clarke, and Bill Nunn, Sr. Harris also worked as a freelance photographer and operated a studio, first out a home he shared with his mother Ella in Homewood, and then in a studio on Centre Avenue in the Hill District. Photographic camera owned by Charles “Teenie” Harris. The Conley Safety camera was manufactured in Chicago, Illinois and Rochester, New York for the Sears, Roebuck and Company. This particular camera had lens manufactured by the Wollensak Optical Company in Rochester, New York.
