Paper label adhered to interior has black typewritten maker's mark:
"Fried Aug. Glass verfertigt nach / Antonius Stradvarius / focit Cremona An 1776".
Chinrest (detached) has inscribed text "PAT'D FEB 23 1875 / C. FALBERT".

Rosin pad inside compartment within case is marked with text "The J.F.M. Rosin / with flexible cover / Roth VIOLINS / 1729 SUPERIOR AVE / CLEVELAND, OHIO 44114 / Made in England".

(d) Inscribed maker's mark on proper right side near base "BAUSCH".
Historical NotesIt is believed that this violin was owned by the noted Pittsburgh composer, Stephen Collins Foster. It was purchased from Foster by Enoch Allen for his son Thomas in 1856. The violin then passed to Thomas' son, Owen, who donated it in 1951.
