Elaine Kahn Lightfounded 1922
Elaine (Kahn) Light was the first woman sports editor for the Pitt News when she was a student at the University during WWII. After she graduated in 1944 she was hired by the Associated Press, becoming one of only a small number of women hired. While covering a story in Punxsutawney, she met Sam Light and they were married a few months later, she spent the next 41 years there. While there she produced several cookbooks themed around Punxsutawney Phil and Groundhog Day. She moved back to Pittsburgh after her husband’s death and wrote food related articles for local publications.
