Wollensak Optical Companyfounded 1890
The Wollensak Optical Company, initially known as the Wollensak and Rauber Company was founded in 1890 by Andrew and John C. Wollensak with the financial support of Stephen Rauber. However, Rauber’s retirement became a significant factor in changing the name of the company. In addition to the production of remarkable lenses and shutters, the company redirected some of its production efforts towards the second world war. The company contributed to the War by producing fast photographic lenses that helped to capture bomb bursts.
