BiographyWilliam Riethmiller was born to Robert and Doris Riethmiller. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, enlisting just after his high school graduation in 1962. He served as a radar operator on the USS Hancock, an aircraft carrier. Upon returning from the war, William joined the Guyasuta Post 709 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Sharpsburg, Pa. where his father was a commander. Bobby attributes William’s joining to pressure from their father, Robert. William joined in along with a friend, Thomas Lawrence, in the mid-1970s. William volunteered for major events such as Memorial Day, but was otherwise much less active than his father. William Riethmiller died in January 2014.
