BiographyStanley Turrentine (1934-2000) was a jazz tenor saxophonist who started his musical journey by joining the Lowell Fulson Band in Pittsburgh in 1951, at 17. Turrentine’s father, Thomas Turrentine, was also a noted saxophonist who performed with the Savoy Sultans in the late 30s. Turrentine’s father taught him how to play the saxophone at age 11. He was married to Judith Turrentine, who also doubled as his manager.
