Pittsburgh Novelty Works

Laureston Livingston established the Novelty Works in 1838 with Calvin Adams. In 1844, John J. Roggen became a partner and the firm changed to Livingston, Roggen and Company. It was located at Grant and Front streets and produced platform scales, counter scales, door locks, latches, casters, coffee mills, etc. The company had a foundry room, finishing room, a fitting room and box making room. The company also manufactured iron parts used in carriage, boat and house building. In 1849, General J. K. Moorhead and W. B. Copeland purchased an interest in the Novelty Works. The shop burned in 1870 and was not rebuilt.
