Historical NotesWooden basket hand-crafted by a basket maker in Roccamandolfi, Italy who is the last such basket maker in the region. Once used for gathering and transporting goods, the baskets are now sold as souvenirs to tourists. The village of Roccamandolfi is the childhood home of D’Andrea. Part of a collection of artifacts donated by first-generation Italian American Joseph D’Andrea that reflects the various activities he was involved in during his illustrious career in Pittsburgh as Consul of Italy, president of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, member of the Board of Directors of the National Education Association, and founder and president of the Italian Cultural Heritage Society.
