DescriptionPrayer cloth and black fabric case. Rectangular off-white fabric. Black ink printed illustration and text on each side. Front has illustration of the crucifixion at top center and text of "The Only True Letter of Christ". Reverse has "Miracles Made by the Holy Letter of Jesus Christ". Inscriptions(a)
Front has black ink printed Italian text "L'UNICA VERA LETTERA DI GESU' CRISTO", which translates to "The Only True Letter of Christ", followed by the Italian text.
Front has black printed text at bottom "Benedetta da S. S. Papa Leone XIII in Rome, 5 Aprile 1809", which translates to "Blessed by S. S. Pope Leo XIII in Roma, April 5, 1809."
Reverse has black ink printed Italian text "MIRAGOLI FATTI dalla SANTA LETTERA DI GESU' CRISTO", which translates to "Miracles Made by the Holy Letter of Jesus Christ", followed by the Italian text.
Historical NotesPrayer cloth was used by Catherine Stillson Ruda on her 1937 tour entitled "Lourdes and Rome: Twelfth Annual Pilgrimage Father James R. Cox Chaplain, 1937." Ruda attended Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in the Strip District, during the pastorate of Rev. James R. Cox.
