Historical NotesScissors used by Franco Insana, a Sicilian immigrant to Pittsburgh who owned and operated Franco Beauty Academy from 1950 until his death in 1974. The school was located in downtown Pittsburgh. A gregarious and likeable personality, Insana was known for giving blindfolded haircuts as publicity stunts to promote his business. He later opened branches of the school in Ambridge, New Kensington, and Charleroi. His wife Nina assisted with the business and finances and then served as proprietor of the school from 1974 until its closing in 1989-1990.
