Historical NotesPart of a collection of token die sets and tokens made by Matthews International, a Pittsburgh-based company. Donor Gary Metz worked for Matthews International for over 17 years in various capacities in sales and marketing, eventually as Product Manager before leaving the company in 1989. The dies were used through the 1960s to produce tokens for use for buses, trolleys, and trains throughout the region. Matthews was founded in Pittsburgh in 1850 and has continued to manufacture marking and identification equipment utilized throughout the world.
