DescriptionFeathered star quilt. Rectangular quilt with off-white cotton top with nine red and green feathered stars. Hand-pieced and hand-quilted. Large white blocks are separated by red and green calico stars with sawtooth edges. The stars are composed of red and green triangles. Double borders of alternating green and red serrated triangles and two lines of red and green small triangles surround the stars. Quilting of ten stitches per inch on stars is in concentric triangles. Quilting on white blocks have two pairs of arched feather/leaf sprays tied at bases. Off-white cotton backing is folded over edge and stitched on top.Dimensions247 cm. long 248 cm. wide 10 stitches/inchMarksMuslin tag on reverse has text "Donated by Mrs. A. Historical NotesMrs. Elizabeth Loehr made this quilt in 1830 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Donated to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History by Mrs. A. Fisher, daughter of Mrs. Augustus Hartje, Sr. Transferred to HSWP in 1994-1995.
