Historical NotesThe artwork was created by George S. Gaadt for the Tuskegee Airmen Memorial in the Sewickley Cemetery in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. The artwork depicts the design of the Memorial, the first of its kind in the U.S., dedicated to Western Pennsylvania Tuskegee Airmen who were members of the US Army Air Corps trained at Tuskegee, Alabama during World War II. Approximately 85 Airmen hailed from Western Pennsylvania including 12 pilots and airmen from Sewickley, PA.
