DescriptionBeige ceramic decorative plate with gold colored trim on around the outside. Center of plate includes a gold-outlined illustration of the exterior of a building complex surrounded by decorative lines. Beneath the illustration is the text with name of religious organization, year range, and location in gold lettering. Along the gold trim on the outside is a gold-colored floral decoration.Dimensions10.25 x 10.25 in. (26 x 26 cm)
InscriptionsBeneath the illustration is the text: "Vincentian Sisters of Charity / 1902 - 1952 / ST. VINCENT'S HILL / Pittsburgh, Pa." in gold lettering.
Historical NotesPart of a collection that documents the contributions of Catholic orders to healthcare in Western Pennsylvania. The collection was originally on display at Slippery Rock University as an exhibition titled, "Sisters in Healthcare: Sixteen Communities of Religious Sisters in Western PA, 1847-1969." With this collection, the History Center has the largest collection of Pre-Vatican II habits in the United States. Many of the long-standing healthcare facilities in the region were started by the Sisters including Mercy Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and many others.
