As a reporter for WABC in New York, Pineda went to the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11 in search of a breaking story and arrived just as the second plane hit. Racing towards the towers as hundreds of others fled in the opposite direction, Pineda and her crew were just blocks away when the towers collapsed. A cameraman captured footage of Pineda – clad in this red suit and shoes – crouching behind an automobile with her arm around another reporter. She spent the remainder of the day relying stories of the tragedy to the city, nation, and world. Prior to moving to Manhattan in 2000, Pineda worked as a reporter for WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh.
