Historical NotesFive square nails made at the Shoenberger Steel Company. Gottlieb Adam Steiner (1844-1916) was born in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, in 1844. He was a Private in the 123rd Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers during the Civil War and participated in the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and was also at Chancellorsville, though not engaged in battle. After nine months of service, he was honorably discharged and years later became 2nd Vice President of Shoenberger Steel Company; by 1900, he had retired and began personal hobbies--one of which was collected American Indian baskets--until his death in 1916. He is buried in the Homewood Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Donor William S. Huff is Gottlieb Adam Steiner's grandson.
