Historical NotesAn essential early American tool, the broad ax was used as a kind of pane or striking chisel for having round logs into square beams. Twice the size of a felling ax (used for cutting down trees) the broad ax has a short bent handle protruding outward from the side of the ax head with the bevel (basil or chisel slant) on that same side.
