Historical NotesMedical instrument used by Dr. Sidney Busis. Dr. Sidney Busis was an ear, nose and throat physician in Pittsburgh. He went into practice with his uncle Louis Freidman, who had been inspired to join the profession after losing a brother to complications from throat infection. In the 1950s, Busis worked with Dr. Jonas Salk’s team at the University of Pittsburgh on the polio vaccine, conducting tracheostomies on children who were struggling to breathe because of the disease.
