DescriptionStainless steel forceps. Pair of oval handles. Base of handle has ratchet mechanism. Two shanks connect to box lock. Curved jaw with serrated sides connect to a dull tip. MarksProper right shank has a maker's mark on the front "KNY-SCHEERER" and "GERMANY" on the back both above the box lock.

Proper left shank has "STAINLESS" on the back above the box lock.
Historical NotesMedical instrument used by Dr. Sidney Busis. Dr. Sidney Busis was an ear, nose and throat physician in Pittsburgh. He graduated from Peabody High School and the University of Pittsburgh and attended medical school under the auspices of the U.S. Army during World War II. He went into practice with his uncle Louis Freidman, who had been inspired to join the profession after losing a brother to complications from throat infection. In the 1950s, Busis worked with Dr. Jonas Salk’s team at the University of Pittsburgh on the polio vaccine, conducting tracheostomies on children who were struggling to breathe because of the disease.
