DescriptionClass ring with ring box.
Class ring. Ten karat gold finger ring. Thick ring band is narrow at the rear and widens toward the front. Ring is gold with recessed black background. Front is convex with convex, rounded rectangular dark green gemstone bordered in gold and surrounded by college name and two keystones. Proper right side of band has building with text above and below. Proper left side of band has Pennsylvania coat of arms with graduation year above and founding year at bottom. Band interior has engraved maker text at front and inverted owner name on proper left side. Fits inside ring box.
Ring box. Rounded square clamshell box with hinge along back edge. Lid is domed and underside is flat. Interior shell is possibly plastic. Exterior and interior bottom are lined with tan velvet. Interior bottom has horizontal slit across center for holding ring in place. Interior top is lined with white satin fabric. Historical NotesPart of a collection related to Ormond J. Mitol’s career at Westinghouse. Mitol grew up in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, and attended Scott High School in North Braddock. Ormond J. Mitol started at Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh in 1941, on his 18th birthday, as an apprentice toolmaker. He graduated with his Tool Maker diploma from the four-year training course in 1947. From 1944 to 1945, he was a Cadet Trainee in the Air Force. He entered the Westinghouse supervisor training program in 1951 and became a foreman in 1953. After that, he continued to work his way up the management ladder of various divisions, and by 1978 he was the Manager-Overhead Improvement Manufacturing, East Pittsburgh. During his tenure with Westinghouse, he always took advantage of continuing educational opportunities, and in 1977, after attending classes sponsored by Westinghouse at California State College, he graduated with his bachelor's degree in Business Management at the age of 54 in 1977. He was active in the Westinghouse Foremen's Association and held the office of Secretary from 1970 until he retired in 1982. Mitol was chosen to represent Westinghouse at numerous electric turbine manufacturing facilities in Shanghai, Beijing, and Harbin, China in 1981 for the purpose of knowledge sharing. He retired the following year on April 1, 1982. Donor Marsha Miller is Ormond J. Mitol's daughter.
