Historical NotesA pair of shears marked by the Pittsburgh Leather & Glue Company; possibly retailed by PL&G, they were made in New Jersey. The shears were purchased by donor Zelda Curtiss' husband, the late Dr. Edward Curtiss, who was a tool collector. Pittsburgh Leather & Glue was founded c. 1901 by William Sinning and Charles J. Collmann, who had previously operated a leather/hides business (Collmann and Sinning) on the North Side. In addition to the title products of the leather and glue, Pittsburgh Leather and & Glue sold upholsterers' supplies (such as shears) and also wagon and automobile top material. The company appears to have operated until 1952; by 1953 the last owner, James F. Woods, had created a new firm known as Wood, McCaw & Co. which sold upholsterers' supplies out of the last listed location for Pittsburgh Leather & Glue.
