DescriptionPit pass comprised of plastic holder and paper pass. Pass was received folded in two places and inserted inside the plastic holder.
Plastic holder for pit pass. Flat, rounded rectangular clear (yellowed) plastic pouch with inset orange border containing blue and orange Gulf logo at bottom center. Back of pouch has opening along top with flap. Plastic sleeve along top edge of holder has metal safety pin fastener through it.
Paper pit pass. Rectangular light pink paper pass has hole at top center with white string tied through it. Both sides of pass have printed pink design in the background comprised of repeated company logo and horizontal lines. Front of pass has printed black, gray, and red event information, pass number, release of liability statement, and blue ink signature. Reverse of pass has printed black race course map and pass number. Historical Notes1972 pit pass belonging to Mrs. Mary L. Creazzi. This object is part of a collection of Gulf Oil Racing items that belonged to donor Christine Bartell's father, Harry “Chick” Creazzi and that document his career at Gulf. Creazzi worked with famed racecar designer Harry Miller to design the first rear engine race car for Gulf Oil racing in the late 1930s. Creazzi went on to become the head of the racing department at Gulf. Gulf recruited Miller in 1937 when they were attempting to further their research of petroleum products and enter competitive racing. Miller was contracted to build four cars for Gulf and Creazzi assisted him from at the start, they worked out of Gulf’s research facility in Harmarville, Pennsylvania.
