DescriptionOrange nylon jacket with applied white and navy blue vertical nylon(?) stripes on the proper right front panel. Size small. Long sleeve with pocket on proper left sleeve. Stand-up collar with two yellow plastic buttons on front flap. Front opening has metal zipper with ring zipper pull. Pocket on front of proper left hip. Waist has black shoelace drawstring. Proper left chest has applied patch with Gulf logo and black and white checkered racing flag. DimensionsHeight (With hanging drawstring): 38.25 in. (97.2 cm)

InscriptionsProper left chest has applied patch with blue text "Gulf".

Viewer's right tag is worn and has handwritten text in blue ink that is difficult to read, but may read "Chris"; any printed text is faded and illegible.
Historical NotesGulf Oil racing jacket. This object is part of a collection of Gulf Oil Racing items that belonged to donor Christine Bartell's father, Harry “Chick” Creazzi and that document his career at Gulf. Creazzi worked with famed racecar designer Harry Miller to design the first rear engine race car for Gulf Oil racing in the late 1930s. Creazzi went on to become the head of the racing department at Gulf. Gulf recruited Miller in 1937 when they were attempting to further their research of petroleum products and enter competitive racing. Miller was contracted to build four cars for Gulf and Creazzi assisted him from at the start, they worked out of Gulf’s research facility in Harmarville, Pennsylvania.
