Historical NotesThis metal pan with handmade holes (presumably made by a drill press), was used to roast chestnuts by Ventura Brusco, the donor’s maternal grandfather. While Americans associate chestnuts with the Christmas season, in Italy, chestnuts are available throughout the year, making them popular snack food and ingredient. In Italy, chestnuts would be roasted outside in the street, whereas in the United States, Italian Americans made them at home.
