Historical Notes“Pussy hat” made by Mary Jones, Heinz History Center Chief Librarian, and used during the 2017 Pittsburgh Women’s March in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that coincided with the National Women’s March in Washington, D.C. The marches were held on January 21, 2017, the day after Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration. Mary made this hat for herself the night before the march. Two days before the march, she made a similar hat for her friend that was made with yarn of slightly different colors.
