Historical NotesGel filter used by Jay Apt during space shuttle mission STS-79 in September 1996. Jay Apt cut pieces from color gel filters and affixed them to remotely-triggered camera flash units to create color backgrounds for onboard 35mm film photographs that emphasized the technical nature of the spacecraft environment. One of these, taken by Jay Apt of Astronaut Shannon Lucid, appeared in Time Magazine.
