Historical NotesNational Association of Rocketry (NAR) service plaque awarded to Jay Apt on July 26, 2008, at the 50th National Association of Rocketry Annual Meet (NARAM-50) at The Plains, Virginia. Jay Apt became a NAR member in 1962, and, with his father, attended his first national championship model rocket meet (NARAM-6) in August 1964 at NASA’s Wallops Island Virginia site. The next month he founded the Pittsburgh Model Rocket Club, the Steel City Section of the NAR. He and teammate Dave Bayard won the national team championship the following August at NARAM-7 in Aberdeen, Maryland. He served as the press officer the following year at NARAM-8 in Clinton County, Ohio. At NARAM-9 in August 1967 he and teammate Jim Davis won the national team championship, where Vice President Hubert Humphry presented the awards. Jay Apt remained active with the NAR and this plaque commemorates his three terms on the NAR Board of Trustees.
