Historical NotesSticker produced by members of the National Association of Rocketry for Jay Apt’s first Space Shuttle launch April 5, 1991. A number of members of the NAR, the national model rocket organization, were invited to STS-37’s launch by Jay Apt and others viewed the launch from public viewing sites. The ‘AptLoft’ term is a play on the competitive model rocket event Egg Loft in which the contestants construct models that carry a raw egg that is launched and recovered. The model achieving the highest altitude and returning the egg unbroken is declared the winner. These size stickers were commonly issued to commemorate major model rocket competitions and other events and were often affixed to the tool boxes used by competitors.
