Historical NotesCampaign button for Shapp/Kaufman. Gerald Kaufman is from Squirrel Hill and is a former Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He served in the House for three terms, sat on committees working on issues of education, industrial development, health and welfare, and chaired the Welfare Subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee. During his time in the House, Kaufman was known as a "champion of liberal and consumer legislation." The Fourteenth Ward Democratic Club was a political organization founded in 1964 by a group of Pittsburgh Democrats, including donor Dr. Eugene Sucov, an industrial physicist who served as the organization’s first president. The 14th Ward is the largest in the City of Pittsburgh and consists of the neighborhoods of Squirrel Hill, Point Breeze, and North Point Breeze. The club has been in continuous operation since its founding. Donated to the HHC Library and Archives in 2009 and transferred to Museum Collection in 2013.
