Historical NotesPurchased from artist Jess Hager, through World West Galleries, Washington, PA.Label TextContinuous Rounds Caster, by Jess Hager, watercolor, 1983 Hager captured the new continuous rounds caster at the Lorain (Ohio) Works. Able to cast more than 500,000 tons annually, the painting shows six strands of steel passing through cutoff torches as they move along the caster's cooling beds. With two new slab casters added at the Gary and Fairfield Works in 1984, U.S. Steel had the capability to produce the highest volume of cast steel of any domestic steelmaker.
