Historical NotesSewing machine from Gerson Brothers tailor shop. Collected to illustrate the lives and work of two Jewish immigrants. Siblings Harry and Sam Gerson came to Pittsburgh from Biala, Poland in the early 1900s, and around 1929, they opened a shop on East Carson Street in the South Side. Dry cleaning eventually became the major focus of the business, which remained open until 1996.
