Occupy Pittsburgh was part of a national Occupy movement in 2011, where protestors around the country and the world occupied public spaces and camped out to protest national corporate culture and a global economic system that created vast wealth inequality. “We are the 99%” became the international slogan of the movement. Occupy Pittsburgh’s main occupation camp was set-up in Mellon Green between the United States Steel building and Mellon Center, eventually they were forced off of the property by police.
