Historical NotesGas Mask used by Christopher Schroll during World War I. From a collection of items from the donor's deceased neighbor, Christopher Schroll, who served in the First World War. Chris enlisted at the age of 23 in 1917 and was discharged in May of 1919. During the war, he fought in France primarily in the St. Mihiel Offensive, Argonne Meuse (where he was gassed), Toul Sector, and the Morray Offensive. He was honorably discharged but disabled from multiple shelling concussions and ear damage. He never married and continued to live with his two younger brothers, who also never married.
