DescriptionTwo circular flat metal WWI dog tags with brown fabric cord attached. Each dog tag is a silver-color medal with imprinted text on one side; the other side is undecorated. Discolored brown fabric cord is looped through the hole in each dog tag and the two ends are tied together at the opposite end.DimensionsEach dog tag: Depth 0.063, Diameter 1.375.Length of cord: 14.25.
InscriptionsEach dog tag has imprinted text "W L BUCK / 2438081" on one side.
Historical NotesWWI dog tags that belonged to William L. Buck. William L. Buck served in the American Expeditionary Force between 1918 and 1919. As a truck driver, Buck transported troops and supplies to the front lines in France. After the war, he returned to McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and eventually became a realtor. In 1956, Buck donated ten acres of land in memory of his father to Pennsylvania State University to establish a permanent campus in McKeesport. In 1967, Buck donated an additional 100 acres, adjacent to Renziehausen Park, which allowed for the expansion of the campus.
