Historical NotesDouble folding temple spectacles tend to date perhaps 1760-1810. In 1812, Congress passed the Embargo Act restricting the import of goods made in Europe. The first American made eyeglasses date from after this period. They differ from European spectacles in that they have no hallmarks and seldom have a makers name. Found in collection.
