Historical NotesHemingway came to boxing in an unusual way - bumping into trainer Reverend Sheldon Stoudemire on the street one night, and with no prior experience or interest in the sport, asking him to train her. She set her goals the first day in the gym, to be a world champion boxer, and since that night, Tika Hemingway has never looked back. She competed in her first national championship in 2006, and won, then added a gold medal at the Pan-American games, a silver medal at the World Games, and another USA Boxing belt at the 2009 national championships. As of 2010, Hemingway continues to train, hoping to represent her country in the 2012 Olympic games. When not in the ring, she studies criminal justice and mentors young girls sharing the lessons that boxing has taught her, "discipline, hard work, and respect." This donation documents the growing involvement of women in boxing, as well as the career of a local boxer.
