Historical NotesThese pieces are part of a Schoenhut Humpty Dumpty circus set that belonged to William D. Stevenson, Jr. The set is comprised of toy animals and circus figures. Stevenson received many of them as a Christmas gift c.1915. Label TextThe Schoenhut Company produced many different types of toys at the beginning of the 20th Century, but the most popular was its’ Humpty Dumpty Circus. The circus featured a variety of animals and people with moveable limbs, and the selection of available pieces expanded along with interest in the early decades of the century. The set of figures here was owned by Pittsburgh native William D. Stevenson Jr. who received many of them as Christmas presents around 1915.
