The Monongahela House first hosted the Pittsburgh Glass Show. Close to the Monongahela Wharf and convenient to numerous glass factories across the river on Pittsburgh’s South Side, the hotel became known as the “glassmen’s hotel.” By 1910, the location of the Show shifted to the Fort Pitt Hotel. Sited at the corner of Penn Avenue and Tenth Street, this hotel was close to both the train station and the showrooms of large glass companies. In its final years, the Show was held at the William Penn Hotel in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh.
