Label TextAround 1920, the U. S. Steel Corporation began operating a facility in which they built towboats and repaired towboats and barges. These ships were needed to transport coal and necessary products to USS plants for use in the steel-making process and were also used to transport finished steel products. The wooden box with the metal objects inside is a calibration tool used in the Clairton Works Marine Division to calibrate the engines of USS towboats.
