DescriptionGold circular pin. Around the top of the pin is the engraved text identifying hospital and around the bottom of the pin is the engraved text with location all in painted blue lettering. Center of pin includes an embossed image of a cross with a banner at the bottom with the embossed text with school name. Back of pin at the top has the engraved name of recipient, date, and maker information. Around the pin needle is a small and thin silver wire.Dimensions1 x 1 in. (2.5 x 2.5 cm)
InscriptionsAround the top of the pin is the engraved text: "ST. FRANCIS HOSPITAL" and around the bottom of the pin is the engraved text: "PITTSBURGH" all in painted blue lettering.

Center of pin includes an embossed image of a cross with a banner at the bottom with the embossed text: "SCHOOL OF NURSING".

Back of pin at the top has the engraving: "SISTER MARY / CLARENCIA, V.S.C".

Bottom of pin has the engraved date: "1939".
Marks"BBCO. / 10/K" engraved on the back of the pin at bottom.
Historical NotesPart of a collection that documents the contributions of Catholic orders to healthcare in Western Pennsylvania. The collection was originally on display at Slippery Rock University as an exhibition titled, "Sisters in Healthcare: Sixteen Communities of Religious Sisters in Western PA, 1847-1969." With this collection, the History Center has the largest collection of Pre-Vatican II habits in the United States. Many of the long-standing healthcare facilities in the region were started by the Sisters including Mercy Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and many others.
