Historical NotesThis company seal was made by the Matthews Company of Pittsburgh and bears the name of a company founded by Italo Alfred DePolo. Born in Belluno, DePolo settled in the coal mining community of Connellsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. In 1918, he invented and patented a complicated device which was used to screen and separate coal – an important step in the production of coke.
